Fiona G. creates site-responsive drawings on walls, windows and floors using sequences of dispersing geometric shapes. She plays with light, surface and scale; each piece changes with the light of day emphasizing the passing of time and the ephemeral nature of the work.
"During the lockdown, I've transformed my kitchen into a temporary studio where I've been creating a series of new watercolour drawings. My 'Colour Wheels' explore the relationship between light, movement and colour. Allowing the interlocking circles to soak and bleed together, highlighting the fluidity of their medium. Each drawing is influenced by the previous one, they are an evolving body of work."
This artwork is part of the 'Rainbow' watercolours series, Fiona G. is best known for creating large, bright, colourful window installations that are reminiscent of stained glass. Whilst she has been unable to work in her usual manner, she has been looking for new forms of inspiration and took the idea of these artworks from her daily walks in the local neighbourhood. Many families created drawings of rainbows for their windows as a way to say thank you to the NHS and our key workers. These artworks acknowledge this gesture and the rainbow as a symbol of hope in these challenging times.
